Akihiro Nikaido, born in 1977 in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, is a distinguished ceramic artist renowned for his minimalist and unglazed pottery. He pursued his passion for ceramics at Bunka Gakuin College of Art, graduating in 1999.

After completing his studies, Nikaido moved to Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture, where he worked at a pottery class, teaching and creating his own pieces. In 2002, seeking a more immersive environment, he relocated to Mashiko, a town celebrated for its rich ceramic heritage.

Nikaido's work is characterized by its simplicity and the use of local clays, particularly those from Mashiko. He focuses on creating functional tableware that embodies the essence of Japanese aesthetics, often leaving his pieces unglazed to highlight the natural beauty of the clay.

Throughout his career, Nikaido has held numerous solo exhibitions both in Japan and internationally, including cities like New York, Paris, London, and Beijing. His dedication to the craft extends beyond creation; he is a leader of the young potters group "To-ism" since 2010, fostering a community of ceramic artists and enthusiasts.

Nikaido's works are highly regarded for their ability to blend traditional Japanese pottery techniques with contemporary design, making them sought after by collectors and used by renowned chefs worldwide. His pieces are not only functional but also serve as a medium to connect users with the natural world, reflecting his deep appreciation for the inherent qualities of clay.
