Ilona Golovina is a Brooklyn-based ceramist originally from Stavropol, Russia. As a self-taught artist, her work is rooted in traditional vessel shapes that experiment with texture, clay combinations, and found objects. Her work is often asymmetrical with intentional imperfections to leave her work with a sense of timelessness. This blend of the traditional and experimental is both intrinsic to her poetic aesthetic and to her commitment to materiality and repurposing. Through this challenge of tradition to the medium, the vessels become metaphorical representations of the past, present, and future. Her work has been exhibited internationally in New York, Los Angeles, Milan, Athens, and Toronto.
