Koichi Fujioka was born in 1976 in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture. Before ceramics, he was working in an electrical maintenance and construction company. When is was in a pottery class he happened to participate in, he became fascinated by the profundity of pottery and the path of his life was altered. In 2003, he took entrance exams to the vocational training centers and art schools across Japan. While he was unsuccessful getting into a school, he decided to pursue pottery independently while working part-time. In 2005, he set up his own atelier and took over the kiln from his first pottery class. After ten years of hard work, he was able to pursue pottery as a sole profession, winning “Best Award” at the 23rd tableware festival in 2015.
